Coaches must be at least age 18, referees age 16. Training and coaching resources are available to support volunteers. All applicants must be approved by the Community Services Department and complete a volunteer clearance process, including fingerprinting, and background check. Referees must have a thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, techniques and mechanics of basketball. Successful applicants must establish and maintain effective relationships, make fast and fair decisions, and be able to performing regulatory and rule enforcement in officiating games. Additional duties include monitoring conduct, court inspections, imposing penalties, and coordination with scorekeepers. Referees are paid according to grade division.
