YOU DON’T NEED LUCK TO DRIVE SAFE ON ST. PATRICK’S DAY

Today is St. Patrick’s Day, and along with corned beef, potatoes, and all things green, the holiday is also known as a big day for imbibing Irish beer. The California Highway Patrol encourages you to celebrate safely, and reporter Jef Harmatz has these tips to avoid driving under the influence.

Last St. Patrick’s Day, the CHP made 211 DUI arrests, 76 people were injured in alcohol-related crashes, and three people died. Always remember to buckle up, avoid distractions while driving, and designate a sober driver if your St. Patrick’s Day celebration includes alcohol.  The financial impact of a DUI, including attorney fees, fines, court costs, lost time at work, higher insurance rates, and car repairs can reach a staggering $15,000 or more in California. If you see an intoxicated driver on the road, immediately call 9-1-1 and be prepared to provide the public safety dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, location, and the direction the vehicle is traveling. The California Highway Patrol and Z107.7 encourage you to celebrate this holiday safely.
