Workshop on The Western Joshua Tree to Be Held Next Weekend

The Western Joshua Tree is one of the natural elements that has come to define the Hi-Desert, but they are currently under threat from a variety of factors.

A workshop scheduled for next weekend offers a full accounting of the current status of the Western Joshua Tree as its protected status is considered by state and local governments. The workshop, which will also be broadcast as a webinar, is being organized by the California Desert Coalition and the Morongo Basin Conservation Association, who hope provide an in depth look at the ecological and political challenges facing the Western Joshua tree in the 21st Century.

Featured speakers include Dr Tim Krantz, environmental scientist, educator, and retired planning commissioner, Brendan Cummings, conservation director for Center of Biological Diversity, Dr Cameron Barrows emeritus, research ecologist, UC Riverside, Chris Clarke, associate director for the CA Desert Program, National Parks Conservation Assn, Moises Cisneros, campaign activist for The Sierra Club.

The workshop will be held next Saturday, October 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and will be free, though donations are accepted.
