A Wonder Valley man was pronounced dead on Wednesday (June 7) after an incident in a holding cell at San Bernardino County’s West Valley Detention Center on Sunday (June 5).
The man, who has not yet been identified, is described at a 53 year-old white male resident of Wonder Valley. The man was arrested for arson on Saturday, June 3, and booked into the Morongo Jail.
He was transferred to the West Valley Detention Center, one of the County Sheriff’s Office’s larger facilities. The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigation’s Division reports that the man was alone in a holding cell, waiting for a final housing assignment. They report that at 5:10 p.m., he was found unconscious in the cell, and that medical staff immediately rendered aid. The man was transported to a local hospital and then to a trauma center. He was pronounced dead three days later.
No other details about this incident are available at this time. The identity of the deceased will be released pending notification of next of kin.
