The community of Wonder Valley east of Twentynine Palms is part of San Bernardino County fire protection services, but tax revenues received are not nearly enough to cover the costs associated with either a two- or three-person fire crew at the Wonder Valley fire station. A county division chief will hold a presentation Saturday morning about what the options are for residents. Managing editor Tami Roleff fills in the details…
Wonder Valley residents will have an opportunity Saturday morning to learn about a proposal to increase fire taxes in the small community east of Twentynine Palms. County Division Chief John Chamberlin will give a presentation on two options for fire services for Wonder Valley. Staffing Station 45 with a two-person advanced life support crew of a captain and a firefighter/paramedic would cost $1.4 million per year. Divided among the 4,636 parcels in Wonder Valley equals a fire tax of $302 per parcel, per year. A three-person medic engine crew would cost about $2.2 million per year, or $489 per parcel. Wonder Valley’s current fire tax, voted by residents in 2005, is $33.80 per parcel, and brings in a total revenue of just over $151,000. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at 10 a.m. in the Wonder Valley Community Center on Amboy Road.
