WOMEN’S FIGHTING CACTI LOSE FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON

The Copper Mountain College Fighting Cacti women’s basketball team took to the hardwood for the final time in its inaugural season last night and lost 88-32.

Coach Hosie Ward said, “Tonight with a home conference game versus Orange Coast College was a fun game with the girls playing hard, and at the same time, having a good time. We got off to a good start and only trailed by six points midway through the second quarter. Around that time, Tusitusia Brown, our leading scorer and rebounder, got hurt and had to go out the game. Orange Coast took advantage and pulled away to an 18 point lead by halftime. The halftime score was 37–19. We fought hard in the second half but suffered another injury. This time, Celeste Reyes, our point guard and leader in steals on the season, injured her shoulder. Both Celeste and Tusitusia tried to battle through their injuries, but they were not the same and we lost by the score of 88–32.”

Despite their injuries, Reyes and Brown led with 10 points each while Courtney Stanford chipped in with nine points. Stanford played all 40 minutes of the game. Brown also pulled down 10 rebounds and had four blocks.
