A Twentynine Palms woman suffered moderate injuries when her 1999 Subaru crashed into a power pole in Morongo Valley early Sunday morning. About 1 a.m., Morongo Valley firefighters were called to Highway 62 and Vale Drive where they found the driver and sole occupant, Christine Schwabe, 37, pinned inside her car. They used the Jaws of Life to extricate her, and she was taken by MBA to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The California Highway Patrol is investigating, but preliminary reports indicate she may have fallen asleep at the wheel as she was driving eastbound on the highway.
