Twentynine Palms fire fighters rescued a woman hiking near 49 Palms Oasis in Twentynine Palms yesterday. Shortly before 3:30, the Twentynine Palms Fire Department was called to the popular hiking trail for a report that a woman was passing out and possibly unconscious.
Fire fighters met with park rangers at the trail head and hiked with rescue gear about 1 ½ miles to the woman, who was near the oasis. Due to the difficult terrain, a helicopter was called in to hoist the woman out from the hiking trail. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Residents are reminded to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during, and after strenuous activities.
