A trip to the Stagecoach music festival in Indio ended in tragedy for a Los Angeles-area couple, when a Glendale woman was run over by an alleged drunk driver. Investigators say that Alexa Castillo, 30, and Jose Banuelos, 31, of Burbank, had gone to a motel in the 56300 block of Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley after the concert Saturday, and both were drunk. For unknown reasons, Castillo was lying on the pavement in the motel’s parking lot when Banuelos ran over her with his vehicle about 3 a.m. Sunday morning. Castillo was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs where she later died. Banuelos, who has a previous conviction for DUI, was initially arrested for driving under the influence causing great bodily injury, but an additional charge of murder was added following Castillo’s death. Jose Banuelos pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in a Joshua Tree courtroom Tuesday; his bail is set at $1.15 million.
