Two juveniles and an 18-year-old woman who were trying to get a cab to take them from Twentynine Palms to Upland were arrested Tuesday. According to Sheriff’s Lieutenant Mike Barta, deputies were called to the 73800 block of Sun Valley in Twentynine Palms about 10 p.m. to check out a questionable call for a cab. A woman had allegedly called for a cab to take her 13-year-old son from Twentynine Palms to Upland. Deputies determined that the boy and a 15-year-old were run-aways. When the deputies attempted to take the run-aways into custody, Barta said one of the juvenile’s girlfriend, Valen Sowell, 18, became upset and threatened the deputies. Valen Sowell was arrested for investigation of making criminal threats with a gang enhancement, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $50,000.
