The California Department of Transportation, better known as Caltrans, has a Christmas gift for California motorists. Reporter Mike Lipsitz pulls off on the shoulder to bring us this report…
Caltrans’ annual end-of-the-year holiday moratorium on non-emergency lane closures went into effect at 6 a.m. Thursday. Except where safety is an issue, the traveling public statewide can expect the lifting of all planned lane closures through 6 p.m. Thursday, January 3. And to assure your holiday travels are safe and enjoyable, Caltrans offers these tips:
- Never drive impaired.
- Check Caltrans Quickmap for traffic conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/.
- Listen to Z107.7 FM for local traffic conditions.
- Bring chains if traveling to the mountain areas, and start with a full tank of gas.
- For long trips – bring water, warm clothing, blankets, a charged cell phone and charger, medications, snacks, and other necessities.
- Do not go around road closure signs, through running water or flooded roadways.
- Be a safe and courteous driver.
