With the summer’s heat comes extreme fire danger. Reporter Sara Snyder says you can help by creating a defensible space…
California is in an extreme drought, and county and state fire officials have ordered a ban on open burning due to the high threat of wildfire. To better protect your home from wildfires, remove all dead plants, grass, leaves, and pine needles from your yard and roof for at least 100 feet from your home. Trim tree branches so they are at least 10 feet from each other, and from your chimney and roof, and are at least six feet from the ground. Remove or prune plants that are near windows. Woodpiles should be stacked at least 30 feet away from buildings.
