The Twentynine Palms High School boys’ soccer team opened league play at home against the Banning Broncos Tuesday night. Coach Nathan Niles said the varsity Wildcats played well as a team and came away with a 6-1 victory.
Wildcats who scored goals were Adan Herrera, Miguel Sosa, Donald Albers, Irvin Montano, Melvin Ballinas and Manuel Rios. Assists came from Ramon Iniguez, Adan Herrera, Miguel Sosa and Melvin Ballinas. Keeper Juan Duran recorded nine saves in the game. The Wildcats’ record improves to 6 wins and 1 loss.
The junior varsity Wildcats played a close game and outshot Banning 10-9, but came away with a 2-1 defeat.
Sophomore Gabe Bateman scored a quick goal in the second half on assists from freshmen Daviahn Thrasher and Samuel Niles. Keeper Jonathen Simmons recorded seven saves to keep the score close.
