29 Palms High School Wildcat track and field team traveled to Orange County to compete in the Yorba Linda Invitational on Saturday (April 2). The meet included tons of medals and personal records. The top performers of the day were freshman Avery Soca, freshman Jayde James, and Senior Captain Mya Bullion.
Soca earned gold, silver, and bronze and two more spots at the Desert Valley League (DVL) finals in the 100m and 200m races bringing her total to four. James earned a bronze in the 4×1, silver in the 400m with a DVL qualifying time of 1:15.17. Mya Bullion earned gold and silver in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.47 and open 100m with a time of 13.80. She is the Desert Valley League leader in both hurdle events.
For the boys, senior Captain Nicholas Ornelaz Perez earned a third-place medal in the 200m and qualified for the DVL Finals with a PR time of 24.39. De’von Morris ran his first-ever 800m with a near qualifying time of 2:21.06.
The team will travel to Cathedral City on Thursday (April 7) to face the Lions in a DVL dual meet.
