The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat track and field team traveled to a windy and cold Banning High School to compete in the Desert Valley League finals with seven other schools. Coach Ronda Lockett-Morton said in total, the Wildcats had 12 first places, 16 CIF qualifiers, and 22 all league performances.
The first championship was delivered by sophomore Mallory Hutchinson who won the triple jump with a mark of 34’6.5″ and also broke a 26-year-old school record.
Other Wildcats who won league titles include:
Brandon Benton, 300m hurdles;
Jonathan Carson, 100m and 200m;
Preston Mahelona-Rogers, 110m high hurdles;
Shaniah Newby, 100m and 200m.
The girls 4×100 team with Hutchinson, Newby, and Courtney Ogle and Mya Bullion won with a time of 50.50.
The boys, Jeremiah Kirk, Johnnie Smith, Carson and Benton followed up with a championship of their own with a time of 44.38.
