WILDCAT BOYS’ BASKETBALL GETS BIG WINS AGAINST LIONS

Wednesday, the Twentynine Palms High School boys basketball teams hosted the Cathedral City Lions in a Desert Valley League matchup. Both teams secured big wins: varsity won 80-57 and junior varsity won, 73-32.

Coach Michael Usher said the varsity players honored their five seniors before the game. The team battled early with the visiting Lions, leading by nine points at halftime. The Wildcats came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 25-11 in the third quarter, on their way to an 80-57 victory.

Saiz Aguilar paced the Wildcats with 23 points and six assists, and Jeremiah Holmes was unstoppable, recording his first career triple double, with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks. Josh Herne chipped in 11, and every Wildcat scored and had a steal in a solid team defensive effort.

The junior varsity team won 73-32 and was led by freshman Johnnie Aguirre with 16 points and Izaiah Leopoldo with 13 points. Ray Thorton added 10 points with six assists, and Rory Mourning had nine points and five rebounds.

The win brings the Wildcats to 14-11 overall, and 10-1 in first place in the Desert Valley League.
