Aerosol droplets from sneezing or coughing fall on to surfaces where they can live for hours—or days; scientists believe the coronavirus can live for three days on some surfaces, like plastic and steel, and up to 24 hours on cardboard. The virus dies relatively quickly on copper, surviving just four hours. While experts say the risk of consumers getting infected from touching those materials is still low, if they are worried about the possibility of becoming infected from touching items, they can wipe the items down with disinfectant and wash their hands.
