What are the tiny yellow flowers currently dotting the desert?

Local Plant Expert and Ecologist Christina Sanchez was the guest on last Friday’s (September 15) Z1077 Up Close Show. Host Gary Daigneault asked Sanchez about the little yellow flowers dotting our desert landscape.

“It’s called cinch weed. Pectis papposa is the name of the plant, and it’s one of the annuals that is responding to the heavy rains that we have. I love that one, and it’s really aromatic.”

When asked how long they will remain in bloom across the Morongo Basin, Sanchez said,

“I don’t know if we’re going to have any more rains, but they’ll linger.”

You can hear the full interview with Sanchez by listening to the Z1077 Up Close Show as a podcast on Z1077fm.com or wherever you get your podcasts.
