The Yucca Valley Planning Commission had a light meeting last night (January 11). They received updates on several developments around town and looked ahead toward upcoming issues. Reporter Jef Harmatz fills you in on the details.
At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, the Planning Commission approved the encroachment within 10 feet of six Western Joshua Trees (in the 8400 block of Elk Trail, the 7600 block of Joshua Lane, the 7300 block on Condalia Ave, and the 56000 block of Onaga Trail,) and the removal of four dead detached Western Joshua Tree limbs (in the 6700 block of Sage Ave, the 57000 block of Joshua Lane, and the 56000 block of Yuma Trail) at locations across town. Staff advised the commission that the Western Joshua Tree’s current protections will be addressed by the California Fish and Game Commission by May, and whether or not the protections are extended, land development in Yucca Valley will be impacted in unknown ways. The commission received an update on town developments, highlights of which are applications for a new wine tasting room and two new car washes, and that ground has broken on a new supermarket. Finally, town staff said that further public hearings related to short-term vacation rental ordinances will be postponed due to Covid-19 conditions.
