Illustrator Frederic Remington’s iconic artwork of the frontier-era West are on display right now in Yucca Valley. The black and white engravings, made for Harper’s Weekly between 1882 and 1893, depict life during the closing years of the American frontier period. Remington would go on to become one of the most prominent painters of the West, and his early engravings are elegant depictions of horses and riders moving through wide-open spaces. More than 30 of Remington’s engravings are on display at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum which is operated by the Town of Yucca Valley and located at the Yucca Valley Community Center. The show is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. until March 26. Admission is free, but the museum is supported through donations. For more information, call 760-369-7212.
