WE TOUR THE YUCCA VALLEY WATER SYSTEM

The Hi-Desert Water District is offering free tours of its treatment facilities and wells. Assignment Reporter Keith Bailey took the tour yesterday, and says the tour is an informative look into the world of water…

Lower Ridge Reservoir

During the Hi-Desert Water District’s World of Water tour, you’ll learn a lot about the District’s water supply and the delivery process. The district provides water service to over 10,000 connections in a service area greater than 57 square miles.

We visited the Lower Ridge Reservoir, which holds more than 250,000 gallons of water. The reservoir is also equipped with a seismic control system to safeguard it during earthquakes. Well 20 was put into service in July 2014 and produces 950 gallons per minute; it feeds the Lower Fox and Palomar reservoirs.

The tour wraps up at the site of the future Wastewater Treatment Facility, which is scheduled to be operational by the summer of 2019. Once complete, the facility will be able to process 1 million gallons of wastewater daily using membrane filtration technology. The treated water will be used to replenish the district’s ground water levels.

Additional tours will be held March 28 and April 25 starting at 10:30 a.m., and include lunch. To reserve your spot on the tour, call 760-365-8333.
