The latest offering at the Groves Cabin Theatre is the drama “Shadow Box.” Rebecca Havely attended and offers this review of the production…
“Shadow Box” directed by Abe Daniels, follows three terminally ill patients who share a group of hospice cottages. Joe played by Dave Jessup is accepting of his fate, while his son played by Aiden Bosworth is delightfully oblivious. Catherine Inscore convincingly plays his disturbed wife, a woman in complete denial of the inevitable. Patient Felicity is played by the always impressive Joy Groves. Her daughter played by Shelly Sheckler tries to offer hope with letters from a lost loved one, regrettably causing more pain than good. Brian tries to leave no word unsaid and no moment wasted in his final days, he’s truthfully played Abe Daniels. James Darin Rich thoughtfully plays his lover Mark who struggles with the anger of losing a love. Brian’s former wife Beverly, played by Wendy Cohen, brings bittersweet levity to the situation with her colorful character. A mysterious interviewer delicately portrayed by Khrysso Heart LeFey, asks compelling questions throughout the well done, ensemble piece.
“Shadow Box” runs Saturday nights at 7 p.m. and Sunday’s at 2:30 through March 1. The intimate 20-seat Groves Cabin Theatre sells out quickly but if you would like to be put on the waiting list call Joy at 760-408-9363.
