WE REVIEW “KITCHEN WITCHES” AT ST. JOSEPH’S PLAYERS IN YUCCA VALLEY

Opening night of “Kitchen Witches,” performed by the St. Joseph’s Players of Yucca Valley, opened last weekend at St. Joseph’s Church to a full house. The opening night gala raised $1,500 for the fledgling theater company. Managing editor Tami Roleff offers this review…
“Kitchen Witches” is a recipe for comedy. Dolly and Izzy are rivals on competing cooking shows when they are forced to co-host a new cooking show. The two cooking divas scheme, bicker, and engage in shenanigans, to the delight of the audience, but to the consternation of the show’s producer—and Dolly’s son—Stephen, played by Jackson Dean. The play’s audience is also the audience for the “live” recording of the televised show. Dolly is portrayed by funny, wacky Marty Neider, and her one-time friend, but now arch enemy, Izzy, is played by newcomer Sally Fox. Barry Inscore as Rob, the camera guy, captures every distressing slip up, confession, and all the raucous antics. Directed by Abe Daniels, the set and props look very simple—yet you’ll be convinced you are watching a live cooking show. “Kitchen Witches” is comfort food showcasing human frailty, reconciliation, and forgiveness.
“Kitchen Witches” plays Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through December 4. Tickets range from $9 to $11. Call 760-362-9319. St. Joseph’s Church is located at Onaga Trail and Church Street in Yucca Valley.
