Audiences were delighted with the opening weekend of “Company B: On the Air” so much so that an additional performance has been added to the two-weekend run. Reporter Rebecca Havely attended the production and offers this review of the musical revue …
“Company B: On the Air” is written and directed by comic crooner Ben Costello. The radio show revue takes you back in time through three decades, interlaced with comic bits reminiscent of the days of vaudeville. Act One, the 1940s, takes you on a “Sentimental Journey,” performed by Britney Vachon-La Guardia; “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by the Ladies of Company B, and ends with a rousing group number “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” Featured in Act Two, the 50s, is crooner Dennis “Easy” Boos with “Don’t Fence Me In.” The Bateman siblings, Carley and Gabe, have “High Hopes,” and Janeen Duff serenades with “P.S. I Love You.” Act Three, the 60s, features a great duet in Sinatra-style with Scott Clinkscales and Charles Harvey singing “Ain’t that a Kick in the Head.” Kathryn Ferguson’s costume design adds flair through the decades. The comic duo of Slats (John Babrowski) and Wilbur (Costello) ask, “Who’s on First?” in a classic sketch, with lots of other comic bits sprinkled throughout the revue.
