The musical “Annie” opened last weekend to enthusiastic audiences both young and old at Theatre 29. The family-friendly musical follows the story of a spunky little orphan named “Annie” in New York City 1933. She’s selected to spend the holidays with a business tycoon who helps her try and find her birth parents; but they find only con-artists out to steal reward money. Rebecca Havely shares how this production steals your heart…
Young talent Carly Bateman plays an adorable little orphan Annie alongside Charles Harvey’s Daddy Warbucks, who’s very believable as the billionaire business man with a big heart, a role he plays with big-voiced gusto. The con artists Miss Hannigan, her brother Rooster, and his gal pal Lilly are a trio you just love to hate; they are played by Char Childs, Chris Fleischman and Katie Fleishman respectively. Cindy Ross is very well suited to her role as the bright, pretty secretary to Warbucks. Other cast standouts include Dave Jessup, well cast as President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the entire gang of Annie’s ornery orphan girlfriends. Annie’s dog “Sandy” is quite the scene stealer. Directed by Katheryn Ferguson, this show is chock-full of Christmas spirit and show tunes you know and love, perfect for the entire family this holiday season.
“Annie” will run weekends with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 through December 16. This production is on track to sell out, so get your tickets now. Tickets are from $10 to $15 and are available at theatre29.org or by calling the Theatre 29 box office at 760-361-4151.
