The members of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council are not elected, but are appointed by the district supervisor. In this installment of a series of profiles of the members of the MAC, reporter Dan Stork introduces us to Pat Flanagan of the Desert Heights area of Twentynine Palms…
Pat Flanagan moved to the Morongo Basin in 2002. She has a background in science education, including curriculum development and teacher training. She has been on the board of the Morongo Basin Conservation Association since 2004, from which position she has written comment letters on industrial scale renewable energy, illegal OHV use, BLM road plans, and development projects. Pat is also the chair of the Public Arts Advisory Committee (PAAC) for Twentynine Palms. She represents the Desert Heights area on the MAC, whose concerns include the closure of the Lear fire station, the proposed County takeover of the Twentynine Palms Fire Department, and dirt road management. Through the MAC, and outside of her home area, she is involved in land use issues, the solar development proposal at the Joshua Tree airport, and the Altamira residential project in Joshua Tree. She would like to see more action throughout the Basin on air quality and dirt road management.
