The Morongo Valley Community Services District oversees the parks, street lights, and fire department in that unincorporated community at the west end of our Basin. On November 3, voters there will decide who among three candidates are best suited to fill two open seats on the CSD board. Assignment reporter Mike Lipsitz interviewed the contenders; today, we profile Johnny Tolbert…
A nine-year resident of Morongo Valley, sitting CSD board president Johnny Tolbert is the lone incumbent in the race. Asked why he wants to run for a second four-year term, Tolbert responded, “We have some hard work to get done in Morongo. I’ve been working hard and I want to keep that work up. … We want to make sure that we keep our fire department going for years to come.” Looking to the future of Morongo Valley, Tolbert says, “Our future is looking really bright because we’ve been able to build our fire department up, built up our district, and we’re going to take care of Covington Park and make it even better for people to come and visit.” And on his qualifications, Tolbert sites his military background and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve common goals.
