This Saturday at 6 p.m., the Miss Yucca Valley scholarship pageant will be held at the Thunderdome in Yucca Valley. Tickets will be available at the door. Today, reporter Kirby Davis introduces us to contestant Emily Scheckler…
Today we are talking with Emily Scheckler. Emily, tell us about yourself.
“My name is Emily. I go to Yucca Valley High School. I enjoy performing on stage in theatrical productions and I love to read.”
Who is the prominent woman you interviewed, and what did you learn from her?
“I interviewed Jackie Combs, the CEO of the Morongo Basin Health Care District, and out of everything I learned, her schedule stood out to me. Even though she was very busy, she still made time for a visit and what was important to her. She informed me that you have to prioritize your time to avoid being stressed out. As soon as I took her advice, my daily life wasn’t as stressed.”
What have you learned from your experience with Miss Yucca Valley?
“I learned that the hardest part of stepping out of your comfort zone is finding the courage to take that step. When I first started Miss Yucca Valley, I was terrified of embarrassing myself and putting myself out there. But as the time passed it became easier and easier and even enjoyable.
Never let your mind get in the way of your heart!”
