Make plans to see this year’s Miss Yucca Valley scholarship pageant, scheduled for Saturday, February 3 at 6 p.m. at the Joshua Springs Thunderdome. Today, Reporter Andrew Dieleman introduces us to contestant Kierra Rivers…
Today we visit with Kierra Rivers, a junior at Yucca Valley High School and candidate for Miss Yucca Valley. Kierra, tell us, who is the prominent woman you interviewed, and what you have learned?
“The prominent woman I interviewed is Becki Vowles. She taught me the importance of getting out of my comfort zone, meeting new people, and trying new things. One of the important sayings she introduced me to was ‘you can’t let people miss the opportunity to meet you.’ Another important trait she has taught me was being strong through all the obstacles that life throws at you.”
What have you learned from your experience with Miss Yucca Valley?
“Miss Yucca has taught me to come out of my shell and to be more confident in myself. I have always been very shy, staying in my own world to avoid embarrassment, but being in Miss Yucca, I’ve learned that people make mistakes and that I have to stay strong and always be confident.”
Any final words?
“Thank you to the Rotary Club for building strong, independent, great young women. I would also like to thank my mom, my family, and my AVID family for believing and encouraging me to do my best.”
Thank you Kierra.
