A man suffered severe facial injuries in February during a belly-flop contest during a private event during King of the Hammers in Johnson Valley. The man was doing a belly flop off a diving board into a private pool in Hammertown when his face hit the diving board.
After several postponements, Mad Mike Hughes finally launched his homemade steam-powered rocket in Amboy in March. Hughes claimed to be a member of the Flat-Earth Society and said he wanted to see the Earth’s curvature for himself.
Also in March, a homeowner digging in her yard in the 58800 block of Sunflower Drive in Yucca Valley discovered a yellow Honda Civic buried about 5 inches below ground level. A responding deputy determined that the car had been stripped, crushed, and burned. There were no license plates or vehicle identification numbers on the car.

Also in March, Michael Matson, 41, was arrested March 2 for strong arm robbery when he stole six hot dogs at a gas station convenience store in Yucca Valley. When he was confronted by the store clerk, Matson hit the clerk’s arm while trying to knock the phone out of his hand. Matson accepted a plea bargain of second degree burglary and was sentenced to probation in May.
