WATERMASTER LOOKS AT CHANGING PRIVATE WATER WELL RULES

A court judgement in 1977 directed the Warren Valley Basin Watermaster to act as the court’s agent to enforce the provisions of the court’s judgement concerning privately owned wells in the Morongo Basin. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the Watermaster board will discuss changing the rules governing private wells in the Morongo Basin…

At today’s virtual meeting of the Warren Valley Basin Watermaster, the board will discuss adopting a resolution for a new rule concerning privately owned wells. Under the old rules, property owners were allowed to drill wells under a provision known as “minimal producers.” The watermaster board intends to change the rule—to become effective March 1 and subject to the judge’s approval—that if a municipal water line is within 100 feet of a property line, property owners must abandon their well and hook up to the municipal water supply.

The board will also be asked to allow a new well to be dug on Kingston Avenue in Yucca Valley.

Today’s meeting starts at 4:30 p.m.
