WATER SAVING TIPS

If you thought El Nino would miraculously solve the severe California drought, it did not. Mandatory water restrictions continue here in our Morongo Basin. Reporter Rebecca Havely has some water saving tips…
It’s been said many times, and will be said again and again: water equals life in the desert. And with the California drought comes a greater need. Water is a limited resource that can quickly become scarce if we don’t take measures to conserve it. It’s everyone’s responsibility to not only protect our water, but to conserve it’s use. By conserving, you can save on both your water and utility bills, and it helps ease the burden on distribution systems. There are many easy ways to conserve water such as watching how much water you use, and how you use it. Fixing leaks is important; a dripping faucet can waste up to 3200 gallons a year. Reuse water when you can, and if planning a new home, give a gray water system some serious thought. A few dollars now could save hundreds in the future. Other areas you can save include watching how you do your dishes, using the correct settings on washing machines, never hose off driveways and sidewalks, and only water landscaping in morning and evening hours, and use drought-tolerant and native plants. Find out more information on water conservation at your local water provider.
