Deputies are seeking a warrant for a Yucca Valley man who shot at a man Monday evening. Sheriff’s investigators say the victim, a man identified only as “Morones,” went to the home of Joseph Huffman, in the 5200 block of Elata Road in Yucca Valley, shortly after 7 p.m. to collect some money that was owed him. Reports say Huffman shot at Morones twice with a handgun. One shot went into the ground; the other hit the left rear tire of Morones’ vehicle. The victim told deputies that Huffman also hit him in the face with the barrel of the gun. Then Huffman and his wife, Maryann Huffman, fled the scene in their vehicle. Deputies located the abandoned vehicle in the 58200 block of Buena Vista, with the handgun inside the car. Shortly after, Maryann Huffman approached the deputies and told them the gun was hers. Maryann Huffman was arrested for investigation of filing off the serial number of the weapon, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with her bail set at $25,000. Deputies were unable to locate Joseph Huffman and intend to seek a warrant for his arrest. Anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Department at 760-366-4175.
