VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR “POINT IN TIME” HOMELESS COUNT

The county is looking for local volunteers to participate in a count of the homeless population later this month. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has the details…
Later this month, the third annual census of local homeless people, known as the “Point-in-Time Count,” takes place. The results will be used in a variety of ways, including to help determine where County funds and other resources will be best allocated. The count is conducted primarily by volunteers from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 28th. Volunteers are needed from every community and unincorporated area of the Basin. Working in pairs or small groups, volunteers will visit locations where homeless people live and spend time in order to count individuals, conduct brief surveys and distribute convenience items and other essentials. The Point-in-Time count is organized locally by the Morongo Basin Haven, an online resource for area homeless people. For more information or to volunteer, call 760-821-5547 or go to sanbernardinocountyhomelesscounts.com.
