VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR COUNTY POINT-IN-TIME HOMELESS COUNT

The county is looking for local volunteers to participate in a count of the homeless population later this month. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has more about the program and how you can get involved…
The “Point-in-Time Count” is an annual census and survey of local homeless people. This year’s count takes place throughout the morning of Thursday, January 25. The effort will help promote grant funding and other resources to help people exit life on the streets and prevent homelessness in the Hi-Desert. The count is conducted by volunteers from every community and from all walks of life. Working in pairs and small groups, volunteers will visit locations where homeless people live and spend time in order to count individuals, conduct brief surveys, and distribute convenience items and other essentials. Volunteers must register in advance and attend a training session in Joshua Tree beginning at 10 a.m. on January 18. For more information or to volunteer, call 909-386-8231.
