VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO PULL TUMBLEWEEDS

Tumb, tumb, tumbling tumbleweeds may be an iconic part of the Old West, but they are an invasive plant that threatens native plants and pose a fire danger in the desert. The Morongo Basin Conservation Association is trying to prevent the explosive spread of invasive plants—such as the Sahara mustard, fountain grass, and tumbleweeds—in the Morongo Basin, by pulling out the invaders. Reporter Dan Stork says the call has gone out for volunteers for a weed pull in Pioneertown tomorrow…

Volunteers are needed in the Wildlands Conservancy’s campaign to eliminate invasive tumbleweeds this Saturday, July 12 at 7 to 10 a.m., and are being asked to meet at the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve Ranger Station at 51010 Pipes Canyon Road. Bring a pair of gloves and protection from the sun. Water will be provided. Please RSVP to:
Preserve Ranger Brian Brenzel, at either 760-369-7105 or [email protected].
