For more than 30 years, Mara Cantelo hosted the Morongo Basin event formerly known as Tender Loving Christmas. After her passing in 2017, the event was renamed “Mara’s Christmas Wish,” dedicated to her lifelong dream of assisting needy families in the Morongo Basin at Christmas time. Those who attend Mara’s Christmas Wish can expect a warm holiday meal, toys for children from Santa himself, and most importantly, friendship during the holidays. This annual community event requires weeks of preparation from dozens of dedicated volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to attend the first volunteer meeting for Mara’s Christmas Wish on Tuesday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Cholla Room of the Yucca Valley Community Center, 57090 Twentynine Palms Highway.
