In January, the annual census of homeless people, known as the “Point-in-Time Count,” will take place in communities throughout the United States. Reporter Mike Lipsitz tells us what it’s all about and how you can help…
The 2020 Point-in-Time Count takes place from 6 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 23. The results will be used in a variety of ways, including to help determine where county funds and other resources will be allocated. Locally, the count is conducted by volunteers in every community in the Morongo Basin. Working in pairs or small groups, volunteers will visit locations where homeless people live and spend time to count individuals, conduct brief surveys, and distribute convenience items and other essentials. The Point-in-Time count is organized locally by Morongo Basin Haven, an online resource for area homeless people. For more information, or to volunteer to help organize the count in your community, call 909-386-8231 or visit sbcounty.gov/sbchp.
