Volunteer in the new year at the Mojave Desert Land Trust

Along with the new year comes opportunities for bettering ourselves and the land around us. Volunteering with one of the many non-profits in the area is a good way of doing both.

On Thursday, January 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT) will be hosting a training session for new volunteers. During the training, new volunteers will learn more about MDLT, meet the  staff, and jump right into volunteer projects like land stewardship, seed cleaning, or working in their native plant nursery.

Afterward, there will be a group hike on one of the MDLT’s preserves.

The Mojave Desert Land Trust is one of the largest land trusts in the United States, and their service area covers the eternity of the Mojave Desert and some of the Colorado desert, as well. That’s 26 million acres, according to their website. Since their  founding in 2006, MDLT has protected approximately 125,000 acres of ecologically significant land and grown over 120,000 native plants for restoration and community use.
