Residents have their choice of two plays to tickle their funny bones this weekend. In Yucca Valley, the St. Joseph’s Players are performing the third chapter in Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical trilogy, “Broadway Bound.” Eugene, who plays a fictionalized Neil Simon, and his brother are trying to break into comedy writing for CBS while they watch their parents’ 33-year marriage fall apart. “Broadway Bound” plays 7 p.m. Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays at St. Joseph of Arimathea Church, on the corner of Church Street and Onaga Trail in Yucca Valley. Tickets are available at the door. For reservations, call 760-362-9319.
In Twentynine Palms, theater goers have a special treat in store for them at Theatre 29, as the playwright for the current play, “Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant,” will be in the audience and available afterward for a meet and greet. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has the details…
Phil Olson’s “Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant,” opened to rave reviews this month at Theatre 29. It’s one of five in Olson’s hilarious “Don’t Hug Me …” series. Director Marty Neider previously staged a “Don’t Hug Me Christmas Carol” here. Within days of the successful opening, the playwright and lyricist contacted Theatre 29 to say he planned to see the local production of “Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant,” this Saturday, May 21 and offered to hold a post-show “Question and Answer” session with the cast, crew and audience. Tickets are still available for this Saturday at 7 p.m. and for performances through June 4. “Don’t Hug Me, I’m Pregnant” is recommended for ages 10 and up. Tickets are $8 to $15; get yours at www.theatre29.org or call the box office at 760-361-4151.
