The California State Library and the First Partner’s Office is teaming up to continue to provide free day-use vehicle passes to any San Bernardino County resident with a library card. The pass grants you free day-use entry into over 200 participating state parks, and you can check out the pass for 7 days and renew it up to two times which is handy if you are traveling outside of Southern California to explore state parks north of us.
While federal lands are abundant in the hi-desert, we only a few state parks within a daytrip’s distance. However the ones we do have offer a variety of landscapes and ecosystems unique from the desert. Mount St. Jacinto State Park is down the hill and offers beautiful California pine tree hikes and mountain views that are unparalleled at this latitude.
State Recreation areas offer access to wilderness for all sorts of uses – go birding at the Salton Sea, get some water time at Lake Perris Recreation Area or head into the Providence Mountains for a high-altitude change of scenery.
There are three San Bernardino County Library locations where you can get a free library card and gain access to the entirety of the world’s knowledge along with that California State Park pass.
Swing by the Twentynine Palms, Joshua Tree or Yucca Valley locations to ask for details.
