The man whose body was found with a gunshot wound and hanging inside a burning home in Twentynine Palms has been identified by the county coroner’s office as Robert Thompson, 41. On November 14, firefighters were called to the 7400 block of Persia Avenue for a house fire; inside one of the bedrooms, they discovered Thompson’s hanging body. The coroner listed the cause of death as suicide due to a gunshot wound. It’s believed that Thompson started the fire in the home, prepared to hang himself, and then fatally shot himself; when he fell, he hanged himself.
