A Twentynine Palms man with warrants for his arrest was arrested early Saturday morning, after he called for help during an assault. According to a Sheriff’s report, Darrell Chavez, 48, was drinking with two friends at his home in the 71200 block of Indian Trail about 2 a.m. One of his drinking buddies told the other person to beat up Chavez, and the suspect took a steel pole and hit Chavez in the head, causing lacerations, swelling, and bleeding. The two other friends then left the scene. Darrell Chavez was treated at Hi-Desert Medical Center for his injuries, then arrested on a $175,000 warrant for felony spouse abuse and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail.
