VHR WEEKEND PATROL NOW ACTIVE IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

For Twentynine Palms residents looking for prompt relief from loud parties or excessive trash from vacation home rentals, the city is trying out a solution. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …

To address complaints of raucous parties and trashed properties from vacation home renters, the city of Twentynine Palms has contracted Southwest Security to enforce rules and keep the peace. Every Friday and Saturday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m., Southwest will patrol neighborhoods with high vacation home rental (VHR) concentrations, as well as local parks and areas that have been targeted by graffiti and vandalism.

If a VHR is legally permitted, there should be a sign at the front of the property stating the permit number and the property owner’s phone number. If the issue is not resolved after contacting the owner, residents can call the city’s VHR Hotline number, 760-362-6297, which will involve the Southwest officers if the call is made during patrol hours.

Residents may also file an online complaint though this would not result in an immediate response. All complaints submitted online will be addressed the next business day. To file an online complaint, visit the city’s website, 29palms.org, and click on “Code Enforcement” under the “Development” tab.

The VHR patrol program, which uses unarmed officers, is slated to run through April 2022.
