In honor of Veterans’ Day, November 11, schools, banks, the court house, and government offices will be closed. Many restaurants offer free meals or discounts for the military with proper ID. The Town of Yucca Valley will host the Morongo Basin Veterans’ Tribute Friday, November 11, at the Yucca Valley Community Center. The tribute will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the formalities commencing at 11:00 a.m. A free breakfast will be provided by the Young Marines for veterans, military and public safety personnel and their families in the Yucca Valley Senior Center beginning at 8:00 a.m. The event consists of formal recognition of the country’s past and present military personnel, an extensive display of public safety and military vehicles and equipment, and a community barbecue lunch served by Elks Lodge 2314 of Yucca Valley. Local and regional dignitaries, including Brigadier General William F. Mullen, III will address the audience and the Young Marines will perform the highly acclaimed Flag Folding Ceremony, after which entertainment will be provided by the Yucca Valley High School Jazz Ensemble. The hosting of the Veterans’ Tribute alternates each year between the Town of Yucca Valley and the City of Twentynine Palms.
