Sunday, November 11, is Veterans’ Day, and many government offices, banks, schools, and other businesses will be closed on Monday, November 12. The City of Twentynine Palms, the Town of Yucca Valley, and the county courthouse in Joshua Tree will be closed. Copper Mountain College and all schools in the Morongo Unified School District will be closed Monday. Burrtec will provide trash service as usual.
Yucca Valley will host the Morongo Basin Veterans’ Tribute Sunday, November 11, at the Yucca Valley Community Center. The event begins with a free breakfast at 8 a.m. in the Yucca Valley Senior Center for veterans, military, and public safety personnel and their families. The tribute begins at 10, with the formalities starting at 11. The event will include displays of military and public safety equipment, musical entertainment, a community barbecue, and a flag-folding ceremony performed by local Young Marines.
In honor of Veterans Day, Joshua Tree National Park and all national parks will waive entrance fees Sunday, November 11. Camping and reservation fees will still be collected as normal. Fee-free days are an opportunity to take advantage of scenic hikes and views, and enjoy the desert, day or night. Prepare accordingly with a backpack, water, sunscreen, hat, and snacks.
