VETERANS ABLE TO ADOPT PETS FROM PUBLIC SHELTERS FOR FREE

A bill has passed that will allow military veterans living in California to adopt pets for free. With all the details here’s Rebecca Havely…

Beginning January 1, veterans in California looking for a companion pet will be able to adopt one for free from public shelters. The adoption fee will be waived; fees such as licensing and microchipping may still apply. The new law specifically mentions dogs and cats but other pets such as reptiles and birds may also be available for free depending on the individual shelter policies.  Private shelters are not affected by the law and the limit is one pet per vet every six months. Veterans must present a California driver’s license that states “Veteran” on it in order to have the adoption fee waived.
