Morongo Valley firefighters were called to a vehicle fire Monday morning (12/16/19). Assistant Fire Chief Jim Brakebill said Morongo Valley firefighters, with support from CalFire and Yucca Valley, were called to the vehicle fire on Fox Trail, just south of Highway 62, at 8:25 a.m. The fire was out within a few minutes. Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby vegetation. Brakebill said the cause of the fire, which is suspicious in nature, is still under investigation.
Then at 9:40 a.m., Yucca Valley firefighters were called to a vehicle fire in a vacant field just south of the California Welcome Center and west of Trojan Way. Fire Captain Danny Stamps said the recreational vehicle, which was in a homeless encampment, was fully engulfed with flames when they arrived and there was no one on the scene. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to put out the flames, and they kept it from spreading to nearby vegetation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
