A vegetation fire in Twentynine Palms kept firefighters busy for more than an hour last night. According to Fire Captain Robert Marquez, the fire was reported at 11:05 p.m. in a homeless encampment in the wash behind Stater Brothers, east of Encelia Avenue. Bushes, trash, and debris were burning in a 50-foot by 100-foot area. Marquez said it took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control, an hour to put it out, and another 30 minutes to mop up afterward. Marquez said no one was there when they arrived. There were no injuries and the cause is unknown.
