VANDALISM FORCES A CHANGE IN HOURS AT THE JOSHUA TREE POST OFFICE

Plagued by ongoing vandalism, the Joshua Tree Post Office has changed its lobby’s hours of operation. Employee Pauline Smith said the decision to change from being open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to Monday through Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. was made by postal inspectors after attempts were made to break the windows between the lobby area and the postal counter. Smith and other employees said the vandalism to the interior was constant and escalating. Smith said they regret any inconvenience to their patrons.
